Perspective

A lot of people look at Picasso's work and get really pissed. At first glance - its just a bunch of random shapes plastered on a canvas... but when you really start looking at it, its actually super interesting. Its like you had a room full of people - and gave each one a little view finder, and told them to paint exactly what they say. When you start looking at each angle individually, you get a taster of what this person [as abstract as it may be] actually looked like.

Despite predictable expectations - i actually am not going to draw some extended life metaphor out of Picasso's work. Everyone knows that you should look at life in different perspectives... nothing new.

I actually want to present my commentary on a rather immediate level. Lately i have been trying to incorporate Picasso's vision into daily situations. I have found myself repeatedly asking teachers to sharpen my pencil or blow my nose, just so that i can turn around when i get there and see what the class looks like from behind, or beside, or whatever. Sometimes i imagine myself still sitting in my desk - what i would be doing, what i look like. It is really intriguing. Everything looks totally different when you position yourself differently.

For those of you who are students, I would like to challenge you with this. Tomorrow in any given class, get up for a second and look around. Then, come back here. To those in the workplace - take a look around your office [or whatever other work environment you may be in] and do the same thing.

I am curious as to what you saw - something you never really noticed before. Example - in my math class, i never really noticed how small my class was until i stood in the back of the room. The person to chair ratio is probably 1:3 - but from my desk in the front row, i never really noticed that.

Lavish me with your revelations.

"Every man takes the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world."

i never knew how nice my parents house was until driving today into la mirada coming back to biola.
it was interesting though,
because i like la mirada better.
i like the quirkiness
i like the scary albertsons parking lot
and the perfectly lined up palm trees of R.S.M. now kind of scare me more.
