The House of Isaiah
So tonight i have the wonderful privilege of venturing fourth into the great unknowns of Santa Ana... well, actually where i happened to be was greatly known [at least by those who already know about it]
It was a little place that most people call, "Isaiah's House"
Isaiah's House is a community house [homeless shelter] where a bunch of kids and parents go to live while they work on finding a job, place, etc.
I decided to piece together some of the best highlights of conversation that was both participated in and eavesdropped by myself... here they are.
[ two mothers giving parental guidance to their 11 or 12ish year old daughter ]
"You know what baby, it really doesn't matter how big or small your boobs are - you just gotta know how to own them and work with what you got."
editors notes: funny... if only they had replaced the boob part with something a little more worthwhile - they could have really spoken some great hope into this girls life. All she has now is a new sense of affirmation for her underdeveloped breast tissue.
[ Rachael teaching kids how to play duck, duck, goose ]
Rachael -"Oh - he beat you back to your spot. Now you have to go in the mosh pit."
David - "You mean the mush pot?"
Rachael - "Oh yeah - whatever..."
a few moments later...
Rachael - "And this his how I jigallo, jigallo, jigallo."
David - "Uhm... Rach - I'm pretty sure you are singing that song wrong, because I am pretty sure that a jigallo is a slang term for a male prostitute"
Rachael - "Oh. Jigallo - bungalow... whatever."
[ On a more positive note - Dora, a newly arrived 19 year old with a pretty crazy life. To much to write it all - but this was by far the best part ]
"Yeah - they have all these statistics saying that some people just get stuck in the stream of poverty and never really get out - and that 95 percent of homeless teens never graduate college. Well you know what... I am not gonna be another number in the majority. I am gonna be the five percent - I am a bunch of classes right now and working myself really hard, but I will graduate from college. I won't just be another number."
You must be the change you wish to see in the world.
